Alumni Respond to Boger Challenge: $1.2 Million to Endowment

[Joshua Boger ’73, P’06, P’09]Nearly 5,000 alumni met a challenge from Board Chair Joshua Boger, ’73, P’06, P’09, who matched every gift of $25 or more with a $250 gift to the endowment in support of financial aid.

The original goal of $1 million was surpassed by 4,901 alumni (901 more than were needed to meet the initial challenge). Boger agreed to match every qualifying gift, resulting in $1,225,250 for the endowment.

“Joshua Boger’s extraordinary generosity and leadership allowed alumni to make gifts to the Wesleyan Fund while his gift builds the endowment,” said Barbara-Jan Wilson, Vice President for University Relations. “The successful Boger Challenge speaks to the continuing loyalty of generations of Wesleyan alums.”

Most of the donors – 4,551 – were renewing their support from the previous year. Each class (1938-2012) was represented. The 1980s classes each brought in more than 100 gifts per class, with 1983 leading the way at 155 gifts.

Among classes of the last decade, 2003 took the lead with 105 donors, followed by the class of 2008 with 87 donors.

Although the challenge is over, it's never too late to give if you haven't yet. Join your fellow Wes alums by participating in upcoming challenges, Reunion class efforts and by giving to the Wesleyan Fund.
