An engaged audience of nearly 100 alumni, parents, and friends from the Bay Area assembled on October 22 to hear and question food experts Michael Pollan P’15 (author of Food Rules, Cooked, and The Omnivore’s Dilemma) and  Jonathan Bloom ’99 (author of American Wasteland and blogger at “Wasted Food”).  The wide-ranging conversation touched on such topics as the new farm and food making movement (with Wesleyan’s Long Lane Farm as an example), genetically modified foods, the availability of fresh produce for urban neighborhoods, and the 40 percent of food wasted annually by Americans.  All proceeds from this provocative, humorous, and enlightening discussion will benefit Wesleyan financial aid.
