[Brian P. Gottlieb '88]Brian P. Gottlieb '88
(January 26, 1966-December 30, 2009)

Brian was a stellar athlete, a leader in the community and a devoted friend to many at Wesleyan, a school that he was very grateful to attend. The Brian P. Gottlieb '88 Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2011, and the first Brian P. Gottlieb Scholarship was awarded to a member of Wesleyan's Class of '15 who embodies the wonderful spirit and attributes of Brian. Ongoing donations to the Scholarship will afford this student - and those who come after him - the many opportunities that Brian had during his years at Wesleyan.

Brian's love of hockey began in early childhood. At the age of four, Brian laced up his first pair of hockey skates so that he could play with his older brother at South Mountain Arena in West Orange, New Jersey. He played in his first hockey club at the age of six. At that time, Brian decided that he wanted to be a goalie because he believed that guarding the net was the most important position.

Throughout his early childhood and adolescence, Brian belonged to numerous hockey clubs, won several regional and national tournaments, and remained extremely dedicated to the sport during high school. In 1984, Duke Snyder, Wesleyan's Men's Hockey coach, was looking for a new goalie and he found Brian to be the perfect fit for Wesleyan's team. Brian was a fierce competitor and shared many victories with the team, including the Little Three Championship in 1987.

Upon graduating from Wesleyan, Brian pursued a career in investment banking at Kidder Peabody, Salomon Smith Barney, JP Morgan Chase, and most recently was Managing Director and Head of Healthcare Services at Credit Suisse in New York. In 1998, Brian married Bethel Gorin '90 and they have four children, David (12), Alexandra (10), Caroline (6) and Andrew (4).

Since fundraising began in 2010, the Brian P. Gottlieb Scholarship has raised over $440,000. The first Gottlieb Scholar is currently a sophomore at Wesleyan who represents the Cardinals on the mens hockey team. 2013 marks Brian's 25th Reunion year at Wesleyan.
