Personally identifiable information
We do not gather personally identifiable information from you when you browse Wesconnect outside of login unless you elect to send them to us by using a form (e.g. registering for an event, making a donation, etc.). Wesconnect does need to know the identity of alumni, students and faculty (together, “Community Members”) who wish to register an account on the site because certain features are restricted to those constituents. The first-time registration form requires a WesID, full name and a preferred email address and also asks the registrant to create a username and password.
Online directory and profile pages
Wesconnect features several tools designed to facilitate communication among Community Members. One of these tools is the Alumni Directory, which is available only to alumni, students and faculty with valid access credentials. Providing an online directory helps Wesleyan alumni to reconnect, stay in touch with their professors and network with fellow Cardinals. It also allows current Wesleyan students to make more informed choices about academic majors by exploring career pathways taken by alumni.
If you are a Community Member, some of your personal data may be available on your Profile Page. For example, if you are an alumnus, your name, contact information, and professional background may appear. If you are a student, your name, class year and email address will appear. Wesleyan wants you to be aware of, and make informed choices about, the data available on your Profile Page. Wesconnect’s privacy options allow Community Members to edit their personal data and control which fields are visible to other members. Learn more about customizing your Profile.
Changes to personal data
Community Members can review, edit or control access to their personal data by completing first-time registration for the site, and then using the Update Info and Profile Page forms to add, edit, show/hide or remove data. However, site registration is not required in order to inquire about or make changes to your personal data with Wesleyan. The table below outlines the available contact options.
Credit card transactions
Some features of this site enable credit card transactions. These features are completely voluntary to site visitors and Community Members. They include the purchasing of event registrations, online donations, or the payment of other types of fees through the site. They may also include merchandise purchases. Both Wesleyan and iModules take measures to make transactions secure.
Wesleyan requires that employees working with sensitive information enter into a confidentiality agreement with the University, and that they observe secure data handling practices with both paper and electronic documents. Additionally, Wesleyan does not store credit card information on any of its servers.
iModules software uses industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections on transaction pages, encrypting personal information as it travels between Wesconnect and Wesleyan’s credit card processor (Authorize.net). Encrypted data includes name, address, credit card number, and expiration date.
This is a community site that is based on member input and the newsgathering activities of Wesleyan staff. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of information presented. However, anyone demonstrated to have engaged in fraudulent behavior may be subject to (but not limited to) loss of privileges as a member as well as face prosecution.
iModules Software complies with the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information from European Union member countries. iModules Software has certified that it adheres to the Safe Harbor Privacy Principles of notice, choice, onward transfer, security, data integrity, access, and enforcement. Learn more about the Safe Harbor program.
Wesleyan uses an Email Service Provider (JangoMail.com) to send most of its email. However, we occasionally use the email functionality in Wesconnect to communicate with alumni in order to provide customized links that avoid the need to login with a username and password. You can unsubscribe from Wesleyan email communications using the Subscription Management tab in Wesconnect or the unsubscribe link included at the bottom of every message. You can also inquire about your email preferences, or unsubscribe, by writing to firstname.lastname@example.org.
